Ever wish you could just hang out with a bunch of other folks who keep chickens and chat for a while? Please join us at Egg|Plant after hours for a gathering of Twin Cities chicken-keepers and friends! We will be celebrating the wonderful volunteers who staffed our chicken coop at the fair, and those who hosted the 40+ coops on the 6th Twin Cities Parade of Chicken Coops. Egg|Plant will provide beverages (soda, beer, water) and some munchies, please feel free to bring drinks and snacks to share, and pictures of your chickens of course. Care of Young Fruit Trees - Rebecca Koetter at Egg|Plant

The Hamline Midway Environmental Group (HMEG) and Egg|Plant Urban Farm Supply are offering two "Care of Young Fruit Trees" workshops taught by Rebecca Koetter. The classes will be held on on Saturday Sept 17th at Egg|Plant during HMEG's tree distribution day. The 45 minute sessions will be held at noon and 3:00pm. Topics to be covered will include fruit tree planting, mulching, watering, pruning (very basic), reasons for fruit sanitation, rodent protection, and product supply needs. These classes support HMEG's goal of offsetting tree canopy losses in the Midway due to emerald ash borer and help ensure good production from fruit trees that are included in this distribution.

These workshops are specifically designed for the HMEG Tree Team fall 2011 distribution, but they are free and open toanyone. No reservations required.

Egg|Plant at Green Crossing in the Eco Experience building, MN State Fair
Thursday, August 25 - Monday September 5, 2011 - 9:00am-3:00pm daily

This year, the Eco-Experience building at the MN State Fair features Green Crossing which showcases simple products and practices to promote green and sustainable living. We are pleased to be one of the coordinating partners at the Common Cottage, which, for the first time, includes a chicken run!

This indoor-outdoor kitchen is designed for recycling and composting. See the entire food cycle in a small space: Grow your own herbs year-round in the bay window, feed your kitchen scraps to the worms or chickens, and turn all the leftovers from you, the worms, and the chickens into compost to grow more herbs.

Egg|Plant is coordinating the efforts around chicken-keeping and composting with the help of our community partners:

Twin Cities Parade of Chicken Coops Tour
Saturday, September 10, 2011 - 10:00am-4:00pm

Last year there were over 25 coops on the tour! Located throughout the metro area, you can view any or all of these coops on a self-directed, self-paced tour. This is a great way to see how others have addressed the practical and aesthetic aspects of housing and caring for chickens.
